Orgoman PCAT Destroyer, unlike the DAT and OAT Destroyer contain problems to prepare you for the more challenging Quantitative and Biology sections on the PCAT. The PCAT Destroyer calculus topics include logs, and limits, while calculus includes derivatives, and integrals. The Biological sciences require knowledge of microbiology, associated lab techniques in addition to basic anatomy and physiology. The PCAT Destroyer is well balanced between General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, and basic Biochemistry. General Chemistry is perfectly balanced between quantitative and qualitative topics and includes virtually every type of problem you will encounter. The Organic section covers everything from lab activities such as extractions and chromatography to reactions and stereochemistry. Key reactions include Wittig, Aldol, Grignard, Williamson, Diels Alder, SN1, E1, E2 just to name a few. Stereochemistry is also addressed, in addition to conceptual questions involving Huckels rule, aromaticity, resonance, and acid base concepts. Whether you are simply seeking extra help or hope to score high enough for a scholarship, give the PCAT Destroyer a chance. Like thousands of other students who have worked under the auspices of Dr. Romano, the PCAT Destroyer material will offer you success on the PCAT and help your dream of becoming a Pharmacist a reality.

An Introduction

I think the DAT was the most unnecesarily stressful part of the dental school application process. I had taken several standardized tests before, from AP tests and the ACT in high school, to the GMAT when I got an MBA, I had a lot of 'important test' experience. However, when I decided on another career change, towards dentistry, I heard so many horror stories about the DAT exam that it began to psyche me out. I joined the DATBootcamp and DAT Destroyer Facebook groups early into my DAT studying and there were a lot of people posting about different aspects of the DAT and applying to dental school that I was getting a lot of anxiety. The amount of work other students were putting into this singular test surpassed anything that I had done in my long and not very illustrious academic career. I didn't think that I could do it. In fact I signed up for the DAT TWICE because I didn't feel prepared after 6 months. I also thought I could take the DAT before taking Organic Chemistry, which was not a good idea.

Overview

I was feeling confident about Biology since it was my best academic subject going into studying for the DAT, having gotten nearly perfect grades in Biology 1 and 2, Microbiology, Anatomy, and Physiology. However this was my worst score on the DAT and maybe my biggest dissapointment getting below a 20 on the real exam. Especially after getting a very high score the last practice biology exam I took. But overall I thought the DAT was more straightforward than any of the practice tests and problems in either Bootcamp or Destroyer, however it was more specific and more broad which I think resulted in my lower than expected score, because I focused on a lot of concepts like photosynthesis and meiosis which didn't really show up on the exam.

Studying

Before starting Bootcamp I ordered the CliffsAP 3rd Edition and began reading and taking notes on the chapters and doing the end of section quizzes. I found Cliff's to be very dry and hard to maintain focus with so I only got through like maybe the first 5 chapters. I then moved on to Dr. Romano's Dynamite Bio Review which I found much easier to comprehend, I tried to do a chapter or 2 a day while making notes on the PDF my iPad and making Anki Flashcards. I then took a break because of some personal stuff, but tried to keep my bio knowledge up by using the DAT Bootcamp Quizlet and trying to do a 100 / day but that was hard to maintain when I also had quizlets for my classes I was trying to keep up with, so I maybe got through about half of the couple thousand flashcards by the end of the exam. I also installed the Bootcamp Bio Chrome Plugin and found that super helpful because I was at a computer 8-9 hours a day and opened a lot of browser windows. and it kept me on my toes! About a month from my test date I got really serious about my Biology studying and reviewed the 120 page Bootcamp Notes and made some extra notecards for conecpts I had forgoten or needed a refresher on. I also watched the Crash Course DAT Biology Playlist in the week leading up the exam and listend to the DAT AudioLearn Audiobook which provided a couple good points in a digestible format.

Overview

I felt pretty good about the General Chemistry DAT section because I did pretty well in the Gen Chem 1 & 2 prerequisite classes, however when I started studying, I felt that I had forgotten everything that I had learned, especially when I downloaded and started to review the Lab Equation Sheet and it all looked like gibberish, but after finishing Mike's Videos from DATBootcamp and Chad's Videos I felt more confident in my General Chemistry knowledge. I also felt pretty good understanding the general concepts while working on DAT destroyer. Chemistry on the actual DAT felt very concept based, and after focusing on the general concepts like periodic trends and Le Chatelier Principal I felt better. The important thing is that there are a lot of specific equations and details, it's best not to get too bogged down in the details, or else it can be overwhelming.

Studying

Studying for General Chemistry was pretty straightforward. I started by printing out Mike's General Chemistry Outline and working through his videos. I then started working through the related question bank questions and working through the individual exams. I would mark each question that I got wrong and return to them following days until I was able to get them all correct. I also made anki flashcards for the large list of polyatomic ions and topics I didn't know. I then made physical flashcards after going through the anki flashcards for topics I REALLY didn't understand. For content that I didn't know or wasn't doing well on I started using Chad's Videos to get a different perspective. Once I had finished all of that inital review I kept reviewing but moved on to working through the individual Bootcamp tests and doing about 25-30 DAT Destroyer problems a day. The Destroyer problems were incredibly difficult compared to the Bootcamp tests both full-length and individual. After finishing all the individual tests and several of the full length tests I reviewed my results looking specifically at which topics I was not doing well on and reviewing those problems and doing similar practice problems. In the last little bit of time leading up to the actual exam, I just reviewed a handful of specific concepts that I was still getting wrong but thought it was just by lack of review, I didn't try to learn anything new.

Overview

Organic Chemistry was probably the subject matter that I was most nervous about besides the the math section because I only did ok in the Organic Chemistry classses while working on my prereqs, and I didn't take any of the Ochem labs, so any lab tests and concepts like spectroscopy were brand new to me. I was surprised when it was my best score in the survey of natural sciences, but the problems on the actual exam were pretty straightforward than the practice questions. I was nervous becaused I assumed there would be a lot of complex mechanisms and predict the products, but there were only a handful of each kind and they weren't very complex. Overall I would say that it was the easiest of the science sections. I think that it was the section that you can get better at through practice rather just rote memorization.

Studying

The first thing thing that I did before starting to study for organic chemistry was to redraw all of the mechanisms from the DAT Bootcamp Organic Chemistry Reaction Summary Sheet with ChemDraw and then export those images into an Anki Deck as both predict the product reactions and mechanism questions. This was mostly a procrastination technique to makeself feel productive, but to get myself into the studying mood I began to try and do 15-20 minutes a day of studying the mechanisms until I knew them really well. I then began going through Mike's BootCamp notes and videos, trying to do one section a day. After completing a section I would try and do all the

I was feeling both confident and nervous about the reading section. I thought that it would be pretty straightforward and probably not as important as the sciences sections of the test. Because I had limited time to focus on this section I waited until close to the end of my studying to focus on it after going through the DAT Bootcamp RC Academy at the beginning of my studying. Throughout my studying I was doing just ok on the handful of practice exams I took even though I was having a difficult time finishing in the aloted time.

Quantitative reasoning was the section of the DAT I was most worried about. Reading the DAT Bootcamp forums and reviewing scores I watched as people did well on every section but QR and became nervous. I also only took 1 math class in college (14 years ago) and had only done a little bit of math studying for the GMAT when I took that exam. Studying generally didn't go well until maybe the last month before the exam, I kept getting problems in correct and not being able to finish in time. What really helped me besides studying in the last few weeks was realizing that the calculator could be used with the number pad on the keyboard instead of clicking on screen, and also to realize that there are finite kinds of problems that you can be tested on so it's best to recognize the types of problems you come across and develop strategies to address them.

Studying

I wasn't really sure how to go about studying for QR. But to just get started I printed out the Bootcamp QR Formula Cheat Sheet and made them into Anki Flashcards to just review them and at least have the formulas ready to go. After practicing some, I started trying to do questions from the DAT Bootcamp QR Question Bank and just kept getting quetions wrong. I reviewed those questions then tried taking Bootcamp individual QR Tests and kept getting the majority of questions wrong, while also not being able to finish in the alotted time. Feeling discouraged I took a break from QR for a month while I focused on other subjects. I then did about 12 questions a day from the math section at the back of DAT Destroyer. Once I had completed all of those questions, I reviewed all the content right or wrong and did all of the questions again. I started doing better and this gave me confidence to attempt to do the Math Destroyer exams. They were very difficult and I don't think I got more than half right on any of them, but I think they were helpful in exposing myself to different types of questions. I finally returned to Bootcamp when I began doing full-length exams and kept getting just ok scores on the exams. The last 2 weeks before the exam I was very nervous and started watching the Dr.Romano's math playlist, and that was super helpful! After watching the series, I went on to revisit some practice tests and started to do better on practice problems. The last practice full-length test I did gave me my highest QR score to date, and I was super excited to see that I ended up doing so well on the QR section of the actual test!
